MnDOT is planning a resurfacing and roadway improvement project on Hwy 30 between Hwy 63 and 5th Ave. NE in Stewartville. Construction is anticipated for summer 2027.

The project team is working on these improvements based on the concept designs and feedback from community members.

  • Repave .5 miles of Hwy 30 located entirely within the city limits of Stewartville.
  • Replace the traffic signal at the intersection of Hwy 63 and Hwy 30.
  • Improve pedestrian facilities on both sides of Hwy 30 and at the intersection of Hwy 30 and Hwy 63.
  • Improve accessibility of sidewalks and driveways to meet ADA compliance.
  • Introduce traffic calming measures along Hwy 30 to improve safety.

Design concept

MnDOT is planning improvements to Hwy 30 between 5th Ave NE and Hwy 63 and is working on a design concept. Options include:

  • Option A: Shifting the Hwy 30 center line north to provide an ADA-compliant sidewalk on the south side of Hwy 30 with a paved boulevard. The north side would include either a shared-use path or sidewalk with another boulevard. These shifts allow for on-street parking on the south side of the street with a wider boulevard to improve sidewalk and driveway slopes.
  • Option B: Leaving the roadway and boulevard widths as-is. This will lead to significant driveway and sidewalk slopes and would require substantial driveway reconstruction.
  • Option C: Shifting Hwy 30’s south curb line and providing parking on the north side. This would allow ADA improvements on the south side, but is ultimately not feasible due to limited space caused by existing sewer lines.

Feedback from community members on these design options will help inform the final plans for Hwy 30.
