Rescheduled: First weekend closure of southbound I-35W begins July 7

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has postponed the first weekend closure of southbound I-35W between I-494 in Bloomington and I-35E in Burnsville, originally scheduled to begin June 23, due to inclement weather. This weekend closure of southbound I-35W will now start on July 7.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, July 7 through 5 a.m. Monday, July 10, southbound I-35W will be closed. All southbound ramps between 82nd Street and I-35E, and the northbound I-35W E-ZPass lane between 106th Street and 82nd Street will also be closed during this time. Motorists will be detoured to I-494 to Hwy 77 to I-35E.

After the weekend closure, the following ramps and lanes will remain closed:

Through July 28:

  • The ramp from southbound I-35W to 106th St. is closed
    • Detour: 94th St. to Lyndale Ave.

Through July 31:

  • The ramp from southbound I-35W to 98th St. is closed
    • Detour: 94th St. to Lyndale Ave.

Through late August:

  • The ramps from 98th Street to southbound I-35W is closed
    • Detour: Lyndale Ave. to 106th St.

Motorists are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time to reach their destination. All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, and slowdown in work zones where workers are present.
