Hwy 95 in Stillwater closes Monday, July 17, for Chestnut Street Plaza construction

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – A two-block stretch of Highway 95 (Main Street) between Myrtle Street and Olive Street in Stillwater will close early Monday, July 17 as work continues on the new Chestnut Street pedestrian/bicycle plaza, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The closure will allow crews to install new water mains and storm sewer utilities, upgrade sidewalks and crossings to meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities) standards and install a new signal system at the intersection of Highway 95 and Chestnut Street. The road will be closed and detoured until late September.

During the closure, traffic will detour on Highway 36, Manning Avenue (Washington County Road 15) and Highway 96 to avoid the closure. Business and local access will be maintained in downtown Stillwater throughout the work. The Stillwater Lift Bridge will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists, although users are encouraged to watch for construction activity and follow any signed detours.

The city of Stillwater is building a pedestrian/bicycle plaza with plantings, landscaping, new sidewalks and lighting. The project is expected to be complete early this fall.
