Hwy 65 traffic restrictions begin Monday, Sept. 11 for crossover construction, culvert installation between Spring Lake Park, East Bethel

ROSEVILLE, Minn. –Northbound Highway 65 motorists will encounter temporary, non-peak lane closures in Ham Lake next week as preliminary work kicks off this fall to prepare for a larger resurfacing and repair project on the highway in Anoka County next year, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Construction this fall and next year is between Anoka County Road 10 (Mounds View Boulevard) in Spring Lake Park and 217th Avenue in East Bethel.

Beginning Monday, Sept. 11, traffic will be restricted to a single lane on the northbound side of Highway 65 between 143rd Avenue and 147th Avenue in Ham Lake to place concrete median barrier. There will be additional traffic restrictions on Highway 65 this fall, including four weekend closures with detours.

This year’s preliminary work includes construction of four temporary crossovers to carry traffic across the median next year. The crossovers will allow traffic to cross the median and travel in a single lane in each direction on the side not under construction. In addition to this year’s crossover construction, crews will also replace 12 culverts along the 14.5 mile stretch of road between Spring Lake Park and East Bethel.

Work this year is anticipated to be complete by mid-November.
As the second project on Highway 65 begins next spring, motorists will encounter single lane traffic and some full weekend closures with detours, as construction crews replace bridges, reconstruct settled pavement, install cable median guardrail, improve drainage and install curb ramp and sidewalk improvements at several intersections. The project will be completed by late fall of 2024.
