Highway 23 Willmar ramps project: NW ramp opens October 6

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Highway 23 and Kandiyohi County Road 5 access project in Willmar will be complete and the northwest ramp will open to traffic by the end of day October 6, weather permitting, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The northwest ramp is the final of three new ramps to open at the intersection and as a result of its completion, the Highway 23 and 19th Avenue Southwest intersection closes permanently.

About this project

MnDOT constructed three ramps at the intersection of Highway 23 and Kandiyohi County Road 5, including the northwest, northeast, and southwest corners. A ramp was already in place at the southeast corner of the intersection. Also, Highway 23 was resurfaced from the west end of the project to the east end.

Benefits of the project include enhanced safety for travelers and access to and from Highway 23 in southwest Willmar. Duininck, Inc., was the contractor and the project cost was approximately $2.5 million.
