Pre-construction work on the Stone Arch Bridge begins January 22
ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Starting January 22, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will be doing pre-construction work on the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. Crews will be using an inspection truck on the bridge to measure stones under the bridge to be replaced. This work will continue through the first week of February.
Although the inspection truck will constrain the width available to pedestrians and bicyclists, they will still be able to cross the full length of the bridge during this time. MnDOT asks pedestrians and bicyclists using the bridge to follow all signs and directions while crews complete this work.

Starting in Spring 2024, MnDOT crews will begin repairing the Stone Arch Bridge spanning the Mississippi River on the edge of downtown Minneapolis. Work includes repointing mortar on the entire bridge, repairing and replacing stone, and other repairs as needed. Stone repair and mortar replacement will halt deterioration and improve the condition of the bridge.
During construction, pedestrians and bicyclists will not be able to cross the full length of the bridge through Fall 2025. Crews will close half of the bridge at a time during construction, allowing people to walk or bike to the middle of the bridge and turn around at the closure. Construction is anticipated to be complete by Spring 2026.
