Tree clearing and utility work along Hwy 93 near Henderson starts in preparation for construction

MANKATO, Minn. – Motorists are advised to use caution on Highway 93 between Henderson and Highway 169 starting as soon as late this week as crews begin removing trees and complete utility work in preparation for construction, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
There will be shoulder and intermittent lane closures until the completion of the work in late March. Motorists should remove distractions and be aware of workers in the area.
By law, the trees need to be removed early in the year to prevent protected bats from making their homes in the trees.
The tree removal and utility work is preliminary work for the Highway 93 construction project near Henderson to raise the highway above the 100-year flood elevation. Construction for the project is anticipated to start in early or mid-April, weather permitting, and continue until 2026, with traffic detoured during construction.
The project will include:

  • Raising Highway 93 approximately eight feet
  • Reconstruct 3.6 miles of Highway 93 from Highway 169 to Elm St. in Henderson
  • Replace the Rush River Bridge
  • Construct an additional overflow bridge to allow for Rush River flood relief

S.M. Hentges & Sons was awarded the project with a bid of $30,606,833.65.
