Highway 12 construction begins in Waverly June 9

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation begins Highway 12 construction in Waverly Monday, June 9. This work is part of a larger, ongoing project to rebuild, resurface and update pedestrian facilities in Howard Lake, Waverly and Montrose, through mid-October.

Work in Howard Lake will continue until late July, at which point crews will also start in Montrose. In the fall, workers will return to all three communities to apply the final road surface and permanent markings.

Waverly timeline: June 9 to mid-August

  • Highway 12 will maintain one lane of traffic each direction from west of Summerfield Drive to First Street S.
  • Expect narrow lanes, lane shifts, gravel surfaces and flaggers directing traffic. Shoulders and turn lanes will close at times.
  • Crews will primarily work between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Access to local businesses and residents will remain open. However, expect use of alternate entrances or side streets, includes pedestrian detours.

In Waverly, crews will pave new asphalt on Highway 12, repair curbs, gutters and side entrances. They will also update pedestrian sidewalks, approaches and flashing crosswalk signals at the intersections of Wright County Road 8 SW and Fourth Street S/County Road 62.

MnDOT will provide another update as work begins in Montrose in late July.
When complete in mid-October, the $9.4 million project will provide smoother roads and improve safety for drivers and pedestrians on Highway 12.
