Seeds Student Worker Program current openings

ArcGIS Seeds Student Worker

  • Location: St. Paul

  • Majors: Geography, Geographic Information Systems, or related field

Work with MnDOT’s Geographic Information and Mapping (GIM) section to provide map information supporting the agency’s transportation planning, design, construction, and maintenance functions. Use ArcGIS Pro to help revise and produce municipal, county, and civil township maps. This position will also review, map, and maintain bicycle status reports and data in GIS. Additional responsibilities include participating in State Highway Map redesign, assisting in website development, and contributing to the MnDOT’s GIS Newsletter.

Primary Tasks:

  • Request information regarding the status of transportation systems and other features from local government, MnDOT offices, state agencies, and other sources
  • Work with others to create, maintain, and update the annual county bicycle map series
  • Assist in creating step-by-step instructions for internal GIS training
  • Migrate information from a custom geoprocessing tool using ArcMap and Python for use in ArcGIS
    • Troubleshoot and correct migration issues
    • Recommend other options and tools to use in migration

Description:
You will assist in materials testing for program delivery and special projects at the MnDOT Chemical Laboratory. Work directly with laboratory chemists and technicians to conduct sample testing as directed by the laboratory supervisor.
Primary Tasks:

  • Conduct routine and special tests on construction maintenance materials in a timely manner
  • Record and report results via AASHTOWare
  • Assist in general maintenance of the laboratory

Primary Tasks:

  • Produce written reports, PowerPoint presentations, graphics, displays, website content, maps, and other communications using plain language and formatting documents for ADA accessibility
  • Support partnerships, advisory groups, or initiatives to further small business contract participation equity objectives and goals
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, office, and agency activities
  • Create training flyers and other OCR communication documents

Roadway Data & Support Seeds Student Worker

Description:
Research, collect, and review mapping and construction data for the Roadway Data and Support Section in the Office of Transportation Systems Management.

Primary Tasks:

  • Assist with the updates of the Construction Project Logs(CPL)
  • Research, interpret, and analyze relevant data and sources (i.e. Commissioner’s orders, construction plans, aerial photography, video log, etc.) are correctly entered into the roadway characteristics database
  • Conduct a statewide review of roadway data using ArcPro, VideoLog, and Google or Bing Streetview software

Description:
Assist in surveying, inventorying, and inspecting MnDOT’s stormwater infrastructure. 

Primary Tasks:

  • Assist in performing hydraulic infrastructure inventory and inspection
  • Assist with the management of MS4 information and needs
  • Assist with locating, interpreting, and printing construction plans
  • Utilize GPS/GIS equipment and software to collect inspection data of metro area stormwater features
