Upcoming impacts
Prep-work
Aug. 4 to mid-August
- The current Hwy 200 bridge will remain open to all travelers the first two weeks
- Motorists to encounter flaggers, slower speeds or sudden stops at the bridge as crews:
- Install the Hwy 200 truck detour
- Install a temporary one-lane bypass bridge for local traffic east of Hwy 200, includes temporary portable signals
Hwy 200 truck and through traffic detour
Mid-August to late October
- Semi-trailer trucks must use the truck detour or seek other routes (PNG map)
- The temporary bypass bridge has restrictions for trucks over 40 feet long or with a 9-ton axle weight. Lane width is narrow.
- Detour uses Hwy 6 in Remer to Hwy 2 south of Deer River, then back to Hwy 200 south of Wawina (entire route 58 miles).
- Consider these mid-point alternatives:
- Hwy 169 from Grand Rapids to Hill City
- Hwy 65 from Swan River to Highway 200
- Through travelers, especially those with larger recreational vehicles or trailers should also use the truck detour or another route (PNG map)
- This keeps the temporary bypass bridge clear for local emergency responders and those along Hwy 200 near Remer and Hill City
