University Avenue and 4th Street at 35W
SP 2783-168 Letting First Quarter 2026
Purpose
To enhance safety for pedestrians and bicyclists, improve the corridor infrastructure, and provide access to bus rapid transit along University Ave and 4th Street in the vicinity of 35W. These corridors have a history of pedestrian and bicyclist crashes at high volume intersections therefore protected intersections, ADA improvements, and separated bike facilities will be installed to improve safety. In addition, the pavement condition of the corridor is categorized as poor, the bridges over I-35W do not meet vertical clearance standards and are due for replacement, and numerous signal systems are at the end of their life cycle therefore the roadway, sidewalks, and bridges will be reconstructed in-addition to signal and drainage improvements.

- Construction start: 2026, although 2027 is the heavier year
