MnDOT, City of Moorhead set up pedestrian demonstration project at Hwy 75/Eighth Street and Fourth Avenue South in Moorhead
DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—The Minnesota Department of Transportation has partnered with the City of Moorhead to set up a pedestrian demonstration project on Highway 75/Eighth Street in Moorhead. A temporary pedestrian refuge island has been installed north of the Fourth Avenue South intersection, and the community is encouraged to “try it out” while it is in place for a few weeks.
This project will test safety benefits of a pedestrian refuge island at this location, and help MnDOT evaluate if the potential scenario could become a permanent solution on future construction projects.
During the demo project, motorists traveling southbound on Highway 75/Eighth Street will not be able to make a left turn onto Fourth Avenue South.
A second demonstration project at Third Avenue South is currently being planned for September.
