Westbound Interstate 94 between Alexandria and Osakis to reopen to traffic; lane closures in both directions

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — As road construction wraps up on westbound Interstate 94 between Alexandria and Osakis, westbound traffic will shift to the newly resurfaced westbound lanes this evening, Tuesday, Nov. 12., according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. In the upcoming weeks, motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions to allow crews to finish miscellaneous work, and begin removing crossovers and other traffic control devices.

Motorists have experienced head-to-head traffic through the project area since early May. The $32.4 million project is being constructed over two years. This year, crews resurfaced westbound lanes, replaced the westbound bridges over the CP Railway and Douglas County Road 23, and made repairs to three additional westbound bridges. In 2025, crews will return to replace the eastbound bridges over the CP Railway and County Road 23.

The Burgen Lake Rest Area, on westbound I-94 near Alexandria, will reopen to travelers on Monday, Nov. 18, and features expanded truck parking and improved pedestrian access and lighting. Visit the project website at mndot.gov/d4/projects/burgenlake-lot to learn more.
