Lights temporarily turned off on Mississippi bridges in Red Wing and Wabasha during mayfly hatching
ROCHESTER, Minn. — Motorists crossing the Hwy 63 bridge in Red Wing and the Hwy 60 bridge in Wabasha will notice that there are no overhead lights until the mayflies are done hatching, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The lights on the bridges over the Mississippi River in Red Wing and Wabasha were turned off to reduce the number of mayflies on the bridge over the next few weeks. Mayflies are attracted to lights and having the mayflies on the bridge cause dangerous driving conditions because it becomes slippery.
