Overnight closure on I-494 begins Oct. 10 for Portland Ave. bridge deck work

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Interstate 494 will close overnight in both directions between Interstate 35W and Highway 77 starting Oct. 10 so crews can pour concrete for the Portland Avenue bridge decks, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.  

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10 through 5 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, I-494 in both directions between I-35W and Highway 77 will be closed. All ramps in these areas will also be closed during this time.  

During the closure, motorists traveling eastbound on I-494 can use northbound I-35W to eastbound Highway 62 to southbound Highway 77 to eastbound I-494as a detour. Motorists traveling westbound on I-494 can use northbound Highway 77 to westbound Highway 62 to southbound I-35W to westbound I-494. 

Then, starting at 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, Nov. 9, crews will close the ramp from eastbound I-494 to Lyndale Avenue. Motorists traveling from northbound I-35W can use eastbound 82nd Street to Lyndale Avenue as a detour, and motorists traveling from eastbound I-494 to Lyndale Avenue can use Nicollet Avenue to American Boulevard to Lyndale Avenue as a detour.

The northbound I-35W ramp to eastbound I-494 will also close at 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 through Sunday, November 16. ​Motorists traveling from northbound I-35W to eastbound I-494 can use eastbound Highway 62 to southbound Highway 77 to eastbound I-494 as a detour.  

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, and slowdown in work zones where workers are present.
