Highway 25 closes, detour begins in east Brainerd April 27
Washington Street project update
BAXTER, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation began preparing the 2026 work zone on April 20 for Highway 210/Washington Street construction between Pine Shores Road and Kingwood Street in Brainerd.
What to expect from April 27 to mid-May:
- Highway 210 will continue to have single-lane closures, shoulder closures and median closures, as crew construct temporary connections in east Brainerd. Be prepared for stop-and-go traffic at busy times. Seek other routes to avoid delays. Watch for slow equipment entering and exiting work areas.
- Highway 25 will close from Highway 210 to south of 10th Avenue NE on Monday, April 27. Follow a signed detour along Highway 210 west of Brainerd, Crow Wing County Road 25 and Highway 18. The closure is necessary to excavate and prepare the road for the mid-May detour.

Also, segments of Oak Street and 13th Street SE will be closed for CenterPoint Energy gas line work. This work is not related to this project.
In mid-May, Highway 210 will close as construction begins on the two new roundabouts between Tenth and Fifth Avenue NE near the east mall. Local access will remain open throughout the project, but travelers should anticipate changes and marked detours.
When all lanes open in fall 2027, the $46 million project will bring safer travel, smoother traffic flow and dependable access — all while creating a better and more beautiful Brainerd.
