A separate project will take place in 2026 to plant the trees downtown.
Project details
The Minnesota Department of Transportation partnered with the City of Pelican Rapids for the two-year resurfacing and reconstruction project on Highways 59 and 108 in Pelican Rapids. Construction was completed in stages in 2024 and 2025.
The project addressed pavement concerns, pedestrian accessibility (ADA) requirements and storm sewer needs. As part of this project, the city of Pelican Rapids replaced more than 20 blocks of city utilities.
In 2019, the City of Pelican Rapids worked with MnDOT and PartnerSHIP 4 Health to conduct a planning study ahead of MnDOT's design phase. The planning study helped aid the City of Pelican Rapids in applying for Transportation Alternative grants in 2020.
Based on feedback gathered from the public throughout 2020 and 2021, a series of proposed improvements were developed for Highway 59 and 108 through Pelican Rapids. In November 2021, the City Council voted in favor of partnering with MnDOT on the 2024-2025 Complete Streets project.
