Summary of work

Improvements will be made on Hwy 14 from east of Hwy 56 in Dodge Center to west of Co. Rd. 5 / 2nd Ave. in Byron. Construction is scheduled to begin April 14, 2024. It is anticipated the project will be completed late summer 2024. The project includes the following improvements:

  • Construct a J-turn at Hwy 14 and Co. Rd. 9
  • Install a high-tension cable median barrier between Dodge Center and Kasson
  • Resurface pavement between Kasson and Byron
  • Improve and repair drainage
  • Rehabilitate the eastbound and westbound Hwy 14 bridges over Hwy 57. The work includes new end posts, approach panels and expansion joints
  • Upgrade the Road Weather Information System (RWIS) site near Byron with new pavement sensors and processing unit

Construction stages

Construction will occur in two stages; outside and inside lanes. The bridge improvements at Hwy 57 will start with the inside lanes.

Traffic impacts

Detours during J-turn construction at Hwy 14 and Co. Rd. 9

Beginning April 14, vehicles will not be able to cross or turn left onto Hwy 14 from Co. Rd. 9. It's anticipated that construction of the J-turn will be completed by the end of June.

  • Vehicles to the north of Hwy 14 will be detoured west on Co. Rd. 34 to southbound 200th Ave./Airport Dr. N to Hwy 14.
  • Vehicles to the south of Hwy 14 will be detoured west on Co. Rd. 10 to Co. Rd. 25/Airport Dr. S to Hwy 14.

Reduced lanes on Hwy 14

One lane of traffic in each direction on Hwy 14 will be open throughout construction.

  • Hwy 14 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 200th Ave. and 260th Ave. beginning April 14, and this will last several weeks.
  • There will also be a lane closure in each direction for the resurfacing work between Kasson and Byron. A start date will be announced once scheduled. It is expected that the resurfacing work will be finished by the end of August.

Detour at Hwy 57

There will be a detour for the bridge improvements at Hwy 57. It is anticipated the detour will last a couple days. Exact dates will be shared on this website and through the project update email.
