Background
Combining traffic data and public input collected from Fall 2019 through Fall 2021, a few common issues and overall themes became evident throughout the project corridor. The top priorities identified by the community for Hwy 60 include safety, traffic flow and business/neighborhood access. While traffic data revealed that the corridor functions well overall, the Main St. and Lakeview Rd. intersections were flagged as problematic both in the traffic data as well as feedback from the public.
Pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, specifically from the Crystal Creek and Lily Lake subdivisions to downtown Lake Crystal, and corridor aesthetics were identified as secondary opportunities. Access management, through the use of access reduction/consolidation, was also recognized as a means to improve safety.
Based on findings from the in-depth traffic analysis and public input, MnDOT was able to develop design concepts to address a range of identified issues and priorities.
